Happy Experiments

Trying something new comes with a caveat. It just may not work out and might not be as successful as your signature style. On the other hand, it might! This attempt to capture a classic Devon hedgerow, bursting with late Spring wild flowers and lush vegetation with Exmoor on the horizon, was one such experiment. It took some time, but I found the close-up detail of plants and flowers, (although tricky and with my usual struggle to find the right brush for the job) a therapeutic painting exercise. The hedgerows are constantly evolving as the year goes by, with one species fading and giving way to others until we hit December at which point there's virtually nothing to see. So this painting is a constant reminder of those joyful Spring days when vegetation growth is in overdrive. This painting is sold, but happy to try again if you'd like your own reminder of wild and wonderful hedgerows.
